Repeater Build Update:
The linking system and Echolink modules have been loaded and I have been testing the link while waiting for the repeater arrival. The company states they should be finished with the build and tuning for shipping out the week of April 20th. I have activated the Echolink validation request and received our new repeater node number. Thanks to everyone at Echolink for the validation.

Repeater Build:
Construction has begun on the new 443.8250 repeater. It will have a +5mhz offset. The controller is being built and I have been in contact with the company building the repeater and aligning the new duplexer. Once built I will be testing in low power mode and interfacing Allstar and Echolink into the system. Stay tuned.

Back Online:
Can't beleive it's been 6 years. Alot has changed in the hobby new radios and ways to connect. In the past I had ran an Echolink Link and connected my Allstar Node into it for the radio link. I no longer run the link and I'm now setting up a Node for me to enjoy the hobby and no longer have a radio linking system like yeasrs ago. Be sure and visit me either from the Allstar Node side or the EchoLink side. Thanks. I'm awaiting the new radioless control system to arrive and get it set up on the new Allstar ASL 3 system. Already have DVswitch Mobile on my phone and have checked the new Node and it's connections as well as the link in to EchoLink. A big shout out to Freedie Mac KD5FMU at hamradiolife.org. His videos on YouTube and scripts he has written makes getting your nodes and extras up in no time. Thanks again. Be sure and give him a visit.

Link Schedule Review:
Discussions continue as we decide this week on the link operational schedule. Talks have been surrounding the weekend only operation vs the full time operation of the link. We're asking for those interested to email us your thoughts on weekend only ops vs fulltime. Since the link nets and news centers around weekend times the idea is to operate from Friday evening until Sunday evening each week. This also would allow for the frequency to remain simplex throughout the week and offers more operators access to the frequency for general contacts instead of being busy with the link only style operation. We will decide by this Friday on the opening schedule for the link as we prepare for this weekends startup.

Echolink Georgia Conference Net Transmission Test:
We connected to the Georgia Conference Server this evening for their Monday Night Net and tested the transmission area as I was driving in from Huntsville. We covered the Somerville area very well and due to the hills were blocked from the Hunstville area, not surprising, and with low power mode were unable to transmit into the Decatur area. Low power linking is keeping us well inside our target area of Somerville and the net sounded great tonight. Still a few more low power mode testing needs to be completed before the March 2nd launch date. Stay tuned....

Antenna erected:
We decided to go with the N9TAX Slim Jim 2 meter / 440. With 6 DB gain and great tuning we thought we'd give it a try. Since the link operates simplex an antenna with good gain is a must. After connecting to the link radio we tried several repeaters and found hitting many of them was spot on. Then were amazed that we actually hit the Moulton, Alabama repeater located 30 miles and drive time around 40 minutes away. Taking into account the antenna height at 25 feet, the site is flat land and we are operating at 35 watts low power, the gain of the antenna is very evident. Joe, N9TAX did a great job on this antenna design and highly recomend it to anyone looking for a great antenna. Thanks Joe for helping get the link up and running.
Link Audio Receive test a Success:
The Echolink computer and software were tested for incoming receive and quality today. The new link connection from the rig to Echoink is 100% and sounds great. Thanks to the folks over at the EchoTest Conference for testing us and giving us the thumbs up on the audio feed and connections.
Transmit Control Coming:
Transmit control is coming in a few days as we will begin the testing of the transmit and relay part of the link. Cables for the control are inbound and will be connected then tested as soon as arrive. We are ahead of schedule on the link and really pleased with the progress made in the past 2 weeks. Stay tuned as we bring the link to operation status between now and March 2, 2019, the actual launch date of the link. Be sure to check in and help us bring the new EchoLink system to North Alabama.
Connect direct to our Node:
You can connect direct using either Echolink or Allstar. For connecting simply select my Node 556940 for Allstar or 454955 for Echolink. Note that the Echolink Node connects direct to the Allstar node but the Allstar node can only connect back to Echolink manually.
Getting Started with AllStarLink
AllStarLink (ASL) is a powerful VoIP system designed for amateur radio operators to connect repeaters, simplex nodes, and private hubs over the internet. Built on the Asterisk platform, ASL enables seamless communication across the globe, bridging analog and digital radio networks.
Signing up is simple—operators register on AllStarLink.org , request a node number, and install the ASL software on a Raspberry Pi, Linux server, or dedicated hardware. Once configured, users can link to thousands of nodes worldwide, enhancing emergency communications, local nets, or casual QSOs.
With flexibility and robust performance, AllStarLink is a game-changer for ham radio enthusiasts looking to expand their reach beyond RF limits.
